2. Summary
BTC Mate was built with privacy in mind. The developer operates no backend and no user accounts, and does not collect, store or process personal data of app users on servers of his own. Everything you enter in the app stays on your device. To display balances, prices and news, the app requests public information from third-party services; the details are below.
3. Data stored on your device
The app stores the following exclusively on your iPhone:
- the public Bitcoin addresses you add and the labels you give them,
- your settings and preferences (for example the display currency),
- saved chart analyses and drawings,
- cached blockchain, price and news data to speed up loading.
This data is not transmitted to the developer. You can delete it at any time by removing addresses in the app or by deleting the app.
TO REVIEW: if the current version synchronises data through the user's private iCloud (CloudKit), add a section stating that data is stored in the user's private iCloud database, processed by Apple under Apple's privacy policy, and can be disabled in iOS settings. If not, delete this note.
4. Third-party services the app contacts
The app needs an internet connection to fetch public information. In doing so, the providers below receive the technical data of any web request, in particular your IP address. No account data exists that could be sent, because there are no accounts.
a) Blockchain data
To show the balance, transactions, blocks, fees and mempool information, the app queries a public blockchain data provider (mempool.space, operated by Mempool Space K.K.; privacy policy: mempool.space/privacy-policy). When you add or look up an address, that public address is sent to the provider to retrieve its history. The provider could in principle link the IP address of the request with the queried address. No private keys or seed phrases exist in the app, so none can be transmitted.
b) Market data
To show current and historical Bitcoin prices and chart data, the app queries public market data endpoints (Binance, operated by Binance Holdings Ltd.; privacy notice: binance.com/en/privacy). Only technical request data is transmitted; your addresses are not.
c) Network statistics, news and events
The Insights and News tabs load public network statistics, news headlines and event dates from third-party sources. TO REVIEW: list the actual providers used in the current build (for example node statistics, news feeds, sentiment index, event calendar) with links to their privacy policies.
5. Legal basis (GDPR)
Where the requests above transmit personal data (in particular the IP address) to third parties, this is based on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the functionality you requested by installing and using the app) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the technical delivery of the app's features).
6. Analytics, tracking and advertising
The app uses no analytics tools, no third-party tracking, no third-party crash reporting and no advertising. No advertising identifier (IDFA) is read. The App Store privacy label for BTC Mate states that no data is collected by the developer.
7. Purchases
BTC Mate is currently offered free of charge and contains no in-app purchases. Should paid features be introduced, payment would be processed exclusively by Apple and this policy would be updated.
8. This website
This website is a static site. It sets no cookies, uses no analytics and loads no third-party scripts or fonts. TO REVIEW: your hosting provider will typically store server access logs (IP address, time, requested page, user agent) for security purposes; describe the retention period once your hosting is set up. Links to the App Store lead to Apple's website, which is subject to Apple's privacy policy.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), objection (Art. 21) and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77). Because the developer stores no personal data of app users, most of these rights cannot be exercised against the developer in practice; data on your device is under your own control.
10. Children
The app is not directed at children under 16.
11. Changes
This policy may be updated when the app or the legal situation changes. The current version is always available at this address.
